Nails are the treatment our clients come back for most regularly, and the one where the difference between rushed and careful shows up fastest.
At our salon in Hamble-le-Rice, near Southampton, manicures and pedicures are given the time they need. That means proper attention to the nail and the skin around it, not just colour applied over the top and out the door.
Nail health comes first
A good manicure starts with the condition of the nail itself. Shaping, cuticle care and the state of the nail plate all get attention before any colour is considered, because a beautiful finish over a damaged nail is a short-term win at best.
If your nails have been through a rough patch, whether from previous enhancements, a stressful few months or simply the weather, your therapist will tell you what they are seeing and what will genuinely help. Sometimes the honest answer is a break from colour, and we will say so.
Choosing a finish
Some clients want a natural, tidy finish that looks like nothing at all, which is harder to do well than it sounds. Others want colour that lasts through a fortnight of washing up, swimming and typing. Both are valid, and the right choice depends on your nails and your life rather than what is trending.
We will talk through wear time, removal and upkeep before you commit, so there are no surprises three weeks later.

Pedicures
A pedicure is worth having whether or not anyone is going to see your feet. Alongside shaping and colour, attention goes to hard skin and to the general comfort of feet that spend most of their lives in shoes and are rarely thanked for it.
Clients who are on their feet all day, who walk a lot, or who are heading somewhere warm tend to feel the benefit most. It pairs well with a massage or holistic treatment if you are making an afternoon of it.
Making your nails last
- Wear gloves for washing up and cleaning. It is the single biggest factor in how long a finish lasts.
- Use a cuticle oil regularly. It takes seconds and makes a visible difference to both nail and skin.
- Do not pick or peel a lifting edge. It takes the top layer of nail with it and sets you back weeks.
- Book removal properly rather than doing it at home. Most long-term nail damage we see comes from removal, not application.
- Keep a rough rhythm to your appointments so we are maintaining rather than repairing.
A regular appointment that is also a break
Plenty of our clients treat their nail appointment as their standing hour in the diary. It is quiet, it is unhurried, and it happens to leave you with something to show for it.
Because so many of our nail clients have been coming for years, these appointments tend to be as much about the conversation as the treatment. That is one of the better parts of running a salon in a village.
Nails for men
Manicures and pedicures are not a women's treatment, and a growing number of our nail appointments are booked by men. A buffed, tidy finish with no colour at all is a common request, particularly from clients who work with their hands or who simply want nails that look looked-after.
Pedicures are worth mentioning here too. If you run, cycle, sail or spend long days on your feet, the difference a proper pedicure makes to comfort is considerable, and has very little to do with how it looks.
Fitting appointments around a busy week
Most of our nail clients are working full time, running a household, or both. We know that a treatment you cannot get to is no use to anybody, so we try to be straightforward about booking, moving and rescheduling appointments.
If you tend to book at the same interval, it is worth putting the next appointment in the diary before you leave. It keeps your nails in maintenance rather than repair, and it means you get the slot that suits you rather than whatever is left.

Pairing nails with other treatments
Nails combine easily with almost anything else on the menu. A manicure alongside a brow and lash appointment covers most of what people want before a holiday. A pedicure after a massage makes for a genuinely restorative couple of hours.
Let us know when booking and we will allow the time. Longer visits are also a popular way to use a gift voucher.
